HOMECARE

In 1996 SORAG’s research in community lives, highlighted that a large proportion of the Somali community were elderly disabled and needed some kind of care in their homes. With this in mind, the Management Committee decided to provide homecare for the elderly and disabled members of the community, and so SORAG Carers and Special Needs Project was commissioned by Greenwich Social Services. Today SORAG Carers and Special Needs Project provides a homecare service to all communities, eg Asians, Africans, Arabs and the English speaking community providing a homecare services for 21 inner and outer London Boroughs.

We specialise in the provision of appropriate domiciliary care services including:

  • The provision of linguistically, religiously and culturally suitable
  • Befriending, Counselling, Advocacy, Advice and Information
  • Services for the elderly & the disabled who are house bound.
  • Easing the accessibility of services for ethnic users.
  • Work with people who are disabled and infirm in their own homes.
  • Create employment.

Personal Care Tasks include:

  • Dressing, undressing, assisting in and out of bed washing, bathing and toileting
  • Escorting to and from education centres, day care centres and hospital appointments
  • Prompting in taking prescribed medicines
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Interpreting and translating

Domestic Care Tasks including:

  • Cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, washing up, making beds, changing linen, disposal of rubbish and preparation of specialist food and drink
  • Collecting pensions, benefits, prescriptions and payment of bills
  • Laundry services
  • Shopping services from appropriate stores

Other Care Services:

  • Main carer relieve service
  • Waking service
  • Befriending service
